Anand in World Chess Championship

How will the 2008 World Chess Championship end? After 10 games, it seems like Viswanathan Anand is about to retain his title, yet things can change on the last couple of games…

Anand Leads 6-4 in the World Chess Championship

October 28, 2008

Though losing the 10th game in the World Chess Championship,Viswanathan Anand is still a draw away from defending his title, while his challenger, Vladimir Kramnik has to win both remaining games and force a tie-breaker to regain his 2006 world championship. Anand and Kramnik are expected to meet on Wednesday, October 29 for their 11th crucial game in the 2008 Bonn World Chess Championship.

Ten games out of twelve are already behind the two rivals at the 2008 World Chess Championship, Indian Viswanathan Anand and Russian Vladimir Kramnik, and for now, Anand leads 6-4, making him a favorite for winning his second sequent world title. However, Kramnik first victory in this series of chess games (during the 10th game held Monday, October 27 at the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany), had set up the hope for the 2006 World Chess Championship and his supporters who have started to think out loud the possibility of a tie-breaker.

Chess experts predict that Anand, whose tranquility gotten a crushing wake up call yesterday, would be drawing and claiming his victory in the 11th game due for tomorrow. Nevertheless the winding history of the celebrated chess championship proves that less predictable things have happened before, such as in the 1987 World Chess Championship in Seville, Spain when Garry Kasparov defended his title after drawing the final game. Either way, the somehow drowsy feeling reported at the beginning of the 2008 World Championship has long gone and was replaced with a tense anticipation.
